on the air

If anybody is in the Birmingham metro area tonight and wants to hear me on the radio, tune into 101.1 FM and you'll hear me in just a few minutes. :) I'm once again helping the Barons with press box duties, one of which is doing the MLB scoreboard updates in the 3rd inning, 6th inning and the postgame report.

So yeah, if you're around and want to hear me...just tune in. Sorry for your out-of-towners...101.1 FM can't be heard over the internet...yet. Keep yer fingers crossed on that one for the future.

guess who's back

*deep sigh*

I am...big woo.

Back at work today...had a wonderful time in the islands with my wonderful wife. We saw the Bahamas (twice), St. Thomas and Tortola, as well as lots and lots of water. We had a blast and the trip was well worth it.

Now the real world is staring me in the face. We received our new manager preference forms today and there's a good chance my shift is about to dramatically change. I'm going to take it in stride though, as I always do, because I know I can persevere and climb the seniority list.

There's a wedding this weekend that I'm very much looking forward to...Elise and George are getting married this weekend! I know I can't wait to attend this wedding, it will be a blast I'm sure and I couldn't be happier for both Elise and George.

I'll be uploading the pics from our vacation tonight or tomorrow, so I'll have the link up for that later this week.

For now...back to the work.

can you feel the breeze?

It's 4:35 am CST right now and I'm waiting for my rocket to come.

Our flight to Fort Lauderdale Airport leaves in just under 2 hours. We're packed and ready to go...the sunscreen, the iPod(s), the books, the clothes, it's all there. In less than 6 hours, we'll be aboard the ms Zuiderdam for a 7-day Caribbean cruise.

All I can say is it's about time.

So if anybody wants me the next 7 days...I'll be somewhere close to here...

the bracelet craze

Has anybody noticed that everybody in the world is coming out with those little rubber bracelets that you wear to recognize or support some cause? It all started with the "LIVE STRONG" Lance Armstrong bracelets that Nike put out to help support testicular cancer, but now just about every group out there has a bracelet you can buy in different colors, saying different things.

Anybody out there got one we might not've heard of yet? Let me know.

So at work today, the call volume dropped to an all-time low this morning. At one point, we had over 80% of our reps in "Available" status, which means that they weren't on a call at that time. Usually, we linger around 15-20% available. We had 110 reps signed in and around 85 available...so we could've operated just fine with 75 less folks here than were signed in. Not good for a sales center. They (being those omniscient front office staffers) are looking into the problem and they (being those same omniscient front office staffers) will get back to us (being those menial front line managers and reps) as soon as possible on this issue (being that we're probably going to be hosed again this month).

Ah yes...yet another reason to picture myself here...

4 more days...

funniest cell phone parody ever

http://www.theonion.com/opinion/index.php?issue=4113

OHEMGEE.

The best...I'm still rolling...

the countdown is on

It's sort of funny to me how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The senior management here at work had decided to make a change to our selling policies that would've probably reduced our sales by 50-70%...but in their infinite wisdom, they've decided to not make the change. I guess they like money in their pockets after all, just like the rest of us.

I had an eye-opening dinner last night at the Hoover Met along with the Barons players and staff. I had a good time and I'm very much looking forward to a great season. I think this could be an outstanding one for the B's.

Congratulations to Gina on the purchase of a new car! And shame on you for having your husband be the one to tell me about it. :)

And here's where I'll be in 5 days...oh yeah...

everybody's in 1st place

That's the beauty of opening day.

I'm sort of slacking off here at work today...I've got the MLB.TV package running on one of my dual monitors here, while reviewing some March sales reports on my other screen....truth be told, I'm sort of in vacation mode already since Christy and I leave for the cruise on Saturday.

But just so everybody knows...the sales data for Friday and Saturday isn't in yet so there's nothing to go over there. I've done my observations for the day already so I'm good there...but yeah, I'm sort of in vacation mode a little early.

Opening day...baseball is back... *deep breath*...you gotta love it.

april fool's is a dumb holiday

probably the dumbest of all holidays. I mean, it's not really even a holiday...but people really go overboard trying to fool you.

I had a few surprises handed to me yesterday...first off, the annual raise I was promised came through and it stunk up the joint...but even worse than that, I found out that our hours of operation here at work are about to change...to be extended out to 10:00pm Monday-Friday and to 8:00pm on Saturdays. I guess I should be thankful for small miracles...we're still not going to be open on Sundays.

This puts a huge kink in the Barons plans for the summer...I'm not sure to what extent that kink will be felt yet, as we haven't done our realignment yet. But I'm sure if things work out like they normally do for me, I won't get screwed too much...just the regular amount...

On a side note...my wife is the best wife in the world. She and I had a wonderful dinner last night to celebrate "Matt Appreciation Day" and it really picked me up...we had a great time. And I'm feeling good because it is the weekend and I just saw something that reminded me of a really funny Eddie Izzard bit... thank god they've got some gods 'cause we had these crap gods...

That's great stuff...
